Kudler Fine Foods Problem Statement
Kathy Kudler fulfilled her vision of establishing her own gourmet food store when Kudler Fine Foods was established in 1998. She opened her first store in La Jolla then second in Del Mar and third in Encinitas. Kudler Fine Foods is facing several issues that need to be resolved, for to bring about the thriving future to the company. Some of the issues they are facing is about mainly dealing perishable goods, have a high payroll due to specialty positions, small management team with too many responsibilities, one location is not doing well, and there are geographic expansion. This paper will identify the crucial issue that hinders the growth of KFF and create a plan to correct these issues.
The major issue that Kudler Fine Foods faces is with the ineffective management structure of the company. Kathy Kudler, who is the owner, is doing the entire managerial tasks to run the business. It seems she is not prepared to put the trust of performing daily responsibilities into the hands of the competent team members. The organizational chart shows three directors, three store managers, six store assistant managers and a department manager for each department in each store. In addition, each department has an assistant manager. Under all these positions are clerical and support staff. Of the one hundred twenty-seven employees of Kudler Fine Foods, twenty-seven are in an official or manager role, according to the EEOC report on the intranet site (University of Phoenix, 2008).
It is impossible for the business to be successful and run like a well oiled machine while one person overseeing and doing all the managerial jobs. It is quite stressful and most likely to take erroneous decisions due to the work load and ensuing stress.
