The use of frequent shopper programs has become a customer incentive to keep customers loyal and coming back to a given store. These programs allow stores to track and monitor individual customers purchases and give them reward points based upon those purchases which can be traded in for in-store merchandise as well as outside high end merchandise. Many stores that are currently using these types of programs are Best Buy, Office Depot as well as many credit card companies.
Kudler Fine Foods is a high end small chain of markets which specializes in gourmet foods. The customers who shop at Kudler's are not as concerned with prices as they are with the quality of the product (Apollo Group, 2008). Therefore, instead of offering in-store discounts setting up a rewards system will help to maintain customer loyalty and allow for better sales monitoring of purchases.
The largest obstacle that the creation of this type of program will be the initial setup and whether the internal IT department should set the program up or if an outside firm should be brought in. The new system should be compatible with what is already in place throughout our stores as to avoid the cost of setting up all new systems. The existing POS system at each register could be used to keep track of customer information. The most long term and affordable way would be to bring in an outside firm to help with the initial setup.
The new system that needs to be put into place should be easy to use by all concerned as well as offer a secure access point for all those who will be using it. This new system should consist of a main database that will hold the customers personal information, points, and purchases.
