End of Chapter 12
Ralph staggered to his feet, tensed for more terrors; he bounded to his left narrowly avoiding a savage’s pointed spear, impaling itself into the sand nearby. “Back off!” Ralph screamed as he took off running down the beach, the tribe close behind on his heals. They grew closer, craving the blood and excitement of a kill. Ralph, now desperate came to the realisation that they must be nearing the steeper side of the island that dropped off into a cliff, the thought have him a wild, desperate last ditch plan. As the cliff grew closer so did the savages, ralph was exhausted and all of the muscles in his body ached. Though he knew he had to keep running or be mowed over by the other bloodthirsty boys. Seconds later Ralph found himself looking over a giant drop off with water and rocks over 30 feet bellow in front of him and sharp pointed spears behind aimed to kill. “Kill the beast” Jack Screamed “we have him, stab him!”, “do him!” The other boys wildly hollered and made exited war cries. Behind them Ralph could see jungle ablaze and smoke billowing into the sky, and he knew he had only one way to go. Ralph turned from the boys, mustered up all of his courage and jumped.
He felt the wind lashing at his body as he fell, down and down he went, he closed his eyes and braced himself for the end. His feet hit first and immediately they were numb from impact. There was a huge splash and he sunk down deep into the salty water. Ralph struggled with all his might to pull himself to the surface, and had to use all his will power not to suck in a breath of water as he gasped for air. Finally he reached the surface hyperventilating, he spotted a rock in front of him and braced for impact as smashed into it with the force of the waves. His hands found a ledge and he grabbed on for dear life, fighting the power of the sea. After struggling for some time Ralph managed to pull himself onto the rock, where he lay until he regained some breath....
