Hi, my name is Nitrogen and these are my friends, Oxygen, Oxygen and Oxygen. As a group, we call ourselves Nitrate. We were the best of friends. One day, we were strolling in the sea doing our usual thing until a denitrifying bacterium comes up to us and ambushed us and kidnapped me. The next thing I know, I couldn’t find my Oxygen friends anywhere. Luckily I was up in the air to get a better view but still I couldn’t find them. While I was up there, I saw many other Nitrogen folks that had been separated from their groups too. It was good to have some company but I missed my Oxygen friends. Before I know it, I see land and I thought to myself maybe I’ll reunite with them soon. As soon as I got down a legume, a nitrogen fixation bacteria, gave me shelter for the night. I met someone name hydrogen. Hydrogen was lost too. So we both decided to stick together. The next morning, we went to explore the new area when suddenly, a plant sucks us into its roots. For the next couple days, we were stuck. Finally when the plant died, I was decomposed and back into the soil. In the soil, I met four hydrogen ions and we bonded. Like my old group, we called ourselves Ammonium. I was getting use to my new life with my new friends until another bacterium, a nitrifying bacterium, abducted me and two other oxygens. The bacteria converted us to Nitrite. Turns out, the two other oxygens were my friends. I was so happy and they took me to the other Oxygen. We were finally reunited and became Nitrate again. I missed them so much and hopefully I don’t go through that process again.
