As a college student in modern day times, we face a number of distractions when trying to write. First, the most threatening challenge is the distraction of technology. Due to the fact that we write through word processors on our computers, it is tempting for other windows and applications to be open on that same computer. Most students always have facebook open on their computers no madder what they are doing. In addition to the distractions a computer provides, phones provide just as big of a problem. Today it seems as if students always have their phones on them. They present a major distraction in that being in constant communication with others through the phone prevents the student from really diving in to writing. Another common distraction these days, is the constant playing of music. While writing, it seems as if almost everyone while simultaneously writing play music. While listening to music may be appropriate for some types of school assignments, it is not for writing. Lastly, being around people may be a serious distraction from writing. Writing is not the type of work you can do with another person. The writer must really be on his own without the social distractions of other people.
I believe I can indeed become a better writer. I believe all people have the ability to improve their writing capabilities. I know that I can become a better writer because as does everybody, I have both strengths and weaknesses. The key to becoming a greater writer is learning what your weaknesses are, and figuring out how to improve them. I know I have much room for improvement to be had.
Although being a “better” writer is definitely a subjective term, there are some aspects of writing which all can agree are indeed better. All writers have strengths and weaknesses. A better writer has worked to develop his weaknesses as best he can. He makes little grammar mistakes and has a great range of vocabulary. A better writer can write multiple genres and types of...
