There is little doubt that there has been a change in the global climate lately! Natural disasters and severe weather have been occurring more and more frequently in recent years. It has also become a popular topic in schools, in the media and in the community as well. But in my understanding, climate change is becoming a serious problem and the irony of it is that humans are the major cause of it. As I elaborate on my essay, you will understand the meaning of climate change, the factors behind climate change, how it influences the environment and the human population as well as the efforts made to reduce the rate of climate change.
But first, let me state a few events that have happened in the past few years due to climate change. In Malaysia alone, there have been a few unusual events that occurred due to the change in weather patterns. At the end of January this year, there has been frosting on the plants at Mount Kinabalu. This is an unusual event because Malaysia is located at the Equator, and even at high altitudes, there should not be any frosting or snow. Another event is the collapse of the UMNO tower in Penang in June last year due to a freak storm and unusually strong winds. The collapse devastated Macalister Road, crushed seven vehicles, injured eight people and killed one person. Yet, another event is the drought earlier this year. The prolonged drought caused water rationing to be carried out in several states. It also caused the wettest town and the driest towns in Malaysia to swap statuses. Jelebu, the driest district in the country became the main water provider for the state of Selangor. On the other hand, Taiping, the wettest town in the country underwent water rationing.
