As a citizen, mother, business woman, wife, friend, advisor as well as the many other hats we often wear, I am often faced with ethical dilemmas, situations and decisions. I am a strong believer in values and integrity and one’s obligation as a person to do/be good. In completing the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory I discovered much about why I view the world as I do as well as how these views shape my thoughts and decisions. I have always taken a great amount of pride in the person that I have become, how I have overcome hardships and always thought that this is what formed my personality and my reasoning for living the way I do. In researching values and ethical standards I have come to understand much more about myself, the way I parent, live my own value based life, as well as how I manage others in the business world. Kathy Kudler and I share a strong value base. In reading her vision and mission for her company one can assume that she is dedicated to providing only quality goods and services to her customers. Although there is always room for improvement, having a foundation of values as well integrity and a basis of ethical awareness and equality one can always supersede their own expectations and grow into something larger than what our vision may start off as being.
As an Operation Manager I am faced with the task of overseeing the daily flow of business in my department. I also manage several people and have to compile assessments and objectives on their performance quarterly. The Ethics Awareness Inventory stated that Obligation is the value that I consider mostly aligned with my personal perspective on ethics with Equity being the least closely aligned. These core beliefs suggest that my ethical perspective is based more on what is morally right and how decisions on right and wrong affect one’s conscience while deciding if a person’s actions are ethical.
