The health care policy I chooses to do my paper on is The Patient Protection and Affordable Act (PPACA). This became a law on March 23, 2010. This law changed many lives and changed the health care system in the United states in many ways. This new law encompasses different angles of the health care industry and will take affect after the next four years. Some contingencies of this law is listed below: This law makes insurance more affordable to the middle class working families tax cut for the health care. "It sets up a new competitive health insurance market giving tens of millions of Americans the exact same insurance choice that members of congress will have". It also helps reduce the cost of premiums for these families and small business owners who are being over priced for coverage today. It ends discrimination to these with pre existing illnesses, and provide insurance to coverage to children under the age of 26 by allowing their parents to put them on their insurance policies. If this was not a law then there would be hundreds or even millions out there that would have to pay a fine due to no insurances.
Signing this milestone in the health care industry, this marks a major overhaul for health care and adds legislation which took decades to complete. For all the United states citizen and permanent residents this law is beneficial but there is still debate about this policy. "The democrats health bill almost found defeat after the death of Ted Kennedy, and his seat won by Scott Brown a republican from Massachusetts" (Stolberg, 2010). It is certain that the U.S. has been long overdue for some type of health care reform. The issue has been essentially ignored by many administrations, and seen as political suicide by others. With this bill now law and Americans see that some change is better then no change at all, is necessary....
