Riordan Manufacturing Analysis of the HRIS
Hugh McCauley, COO of Riordan Manufacturing wrote in a memorandum to the HR integration Product Manager the need and initial approval for the upgrade and support to their HR department in order to integrate the disparate tools used today to support the current HR function. The project plan to be completed needs to include tasks, resources schedule and budget while being implemented in approximately six months. This analysis will discuss the application architecture and process design using a more state-of-the-art uniform system.
Company Background
Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturing company that was founded by Dr. Riordan in 1991. In 1992, the company name was changed to Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. The company has facilities in Albany, Georgia; Pontiac, Michigan; San Jose, California; and Hangzhou, China. The company is “wholly” owned and operated by Riordan Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise with revenues in excess of $1 Billion. (Apollo, 2004). The company’s research and development is done at their corporate headquarters in San Jose, CA. Their primary customers are aircraft manufacturers, the Department of Defense, appliance manufacturers, automotive parts manufacturers, and beverage makers and bottlers.
Current HRIS
The current HRIS or Human Resource Information System was installed in 1992 and is part of the financial system and maintains and tracks disparate employee information such as:
▪ Personal information (names, addresses, marital status, birth date, etc.)
▪ Pay rate
▪ Personal exemption for tax purposes
▪ Hire date
▪ Seniority date (differs from the actual hire date)
▪ Organizational information (department for budget purposes, manager’s name, etc.)
▪ Vacation hours (for non-exempt employees)
