Abraham Lincoln has told us “The best thing about the future is it comes one day at a time.” My grandpa, Don Grewek, has figured out how to master that. He doesn’t worry about anything because you can’t change what’s coming for you until it’s here. My grandpa should be the model for society because he’s a humble man with humble thoughts and humble actions. He realizes what he has and doesn’t wish for anything to change. He couldn’t care less how he looks because he has the most honest mentality and is so compassionate because he recognizes the good in the bad.
Don was born May 5th, 1944. He was raised on an unpretentious farm in Snyder, NE. He also went to elementary school in Snyder. After grade school, he had to start going high school in Scribner and met some of his lifelong friends there. In 1962 he met my grandma, Irene. In 1964 they got married, He says “The wedding was short and sweet and to the point.” On November 13th, 1966 Don and Irene had their first born daughter, Debra Sue. Four years later they had a son, Darrin Duane, on May 3rd, 1970 and a daughter, Brenda Marie, on September 21st, 1977. During his middle ages, Don worked night shifts at the Hormel packing plant as a stationary job until he retired. As the kids got older and moved away, Don just got more humble. How could he not? He had things that money can’t buy. He had 3 kids who went to college, got married and had kids. All were very successful and took after their fathers heart. Simple, modest and respectful. Don’s first grandson, Brian, was born February 4th, 1966. 3 years later on July 27th, 1999, his first granddaughter was born....
