The Sermon on the Mount


The Sermon on the Mount was a lesson. One in which Jesus was trying to tell his disciples what would come to pass. He was their teacher and he wanted them to listen and learn. He was trying to tell them that being poor, was also an advantage for acceptance into Gods kingdom. Those, who mourn shall be comforted. Those who are meek and quiet will inherit the world. Anyone, who hunger or thirst for righteousness will be filled. Merciful people shall receive mercy. Pure in heart will see God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, they will have the kingdom of heaven. People who have others revile and persecute you, utter evil against you falsely on Jesus’ account, should rejoice and be glad-your reward is great in heaven.
I believe that Jesus wanted his disciples to live a life of simplicity. To walk the path he had led. To take the evil things said against them and to not let anger lead them to evil. If the disciples would follow his words they would inherit the earth and the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus also warned his disciples that if they did not follow in the ways he had laid out that they would no longer be good for anything. They would be thrown out from the kingdom of God and trampled under foot.
Jesus wanted his disciples to be the light of the world to lead his followers and let them see his good workers. He also directed his disciples that until all things were fulfilled and the commandments followed and were taught they would not be allowed into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus further instructed his disciples on commandments from murder, adultery, eye for an eye, love for enemies, piety, alms, praying, the Lords prayer, forgiveness, storing, honoring your body, serving two masters. He was teaching them that even though he was to be gone that its so very important to honor Him. A warning to them of what was to come of them if not met.
