Ken Blanchard say’s, “I think people want to be magnificent. It is the job of the leader to bring out that magnificence in people and to create an environment where they feel safe and supported and ready to do the best job possible in accomplishing key goals. This responsibility is a sacred trust that should not be violated. The opportunity to guide others to their fullest potential is an honor and one that should not be taken lightly. As leaders, we hold the lives of others in our hands. These hands need to be gentle and caring and always available for support”.
As I reflect on what I have read and what we have discussed I am truly convinced that it is the role of the leader that set’s the tone for any organization. The art of being a great leader starts with deep reflection on ones own leadership style. Leaders must first recognize their own desire and passion to lead and then they must be partners with the people they lead. In my opinion leaders cannot lead effectively from just a positional power they must also lead from a position of servant leadership where the people they are leading feel supported, motivated and valued. Ken Blanchard in his materials on situational leadership discusses four types of leadership and four developmental levels of leadership within the situational leadership model.
Ken Blanchard’s main goal in understanding situational leadership is to help leaders and the ones they are leading reach their highest level of performance. Ken Blanchard presents the fact that leadership development is connected to the leadership style of a leader and how that leader leads and develops employees within that organization.
