This I Believe

I believe life is like Scooby Doo, and by that I mean, you should always pay attention to the little details. I have found that those very same details are the joys of every day life. It can be so easy to undermine them, but the smallest of details are what really make life unforgettable and worthwhile.
When I was younger I was always busy looking forward in life. I dreamed of one day seizing my driver’s license and escaping on a road trip across the country; being a senior and tossing my papers in the air, as the bell rings on the last day of high school; getting weird on my 21st birthday; graduating from a prestigious college; securing that dream job, earning fat paychecks; and marrying a smoking, hot babe. With my head up in the clouds, I found myself living for the future instead of living in the now.
I have now come to realize that if you rush through life and forget the memories and friends you’ve made along the way, then what’s the point? When I think of high school I don’t think about classes or getting my diploma. Instead, I remember hi-fiving friends in the hall, pulling all-nighters of procrastination, girl-on-girl fights, showering in sweat at dances, encountering psycho substitutes, like Mrs. Smith, and pranking rivalry schools. It’s the journey there that allows you to appreciate your destination.
It’s also important to me to never take the people in my life for granted. Because one day I know I will miss those very same things that drive me nuts today, like nagging parents, Nazi-like teachers or a pissed-off Coach Rod. These people not only affect my life but also shape it. Life can be so exhilarating, challenging, and boring but I’ve come to love it, even with all its imperfections.
