Final Assignment for the Novel, Lord of the Flies. Assignment #4 Whatever Happened To?
Now that you have chosen your character and have reread the last couple of pages in the
novel, I want you to write a short story about the characters life from the moment he was
rescued till he became an old man of 75 years old.
What am I looking for? I am looking for you to touch upon the following points in your Short
Story. You can write this from a first person point of view or a third person omniscient point of
view. Whichever point of view that you believe will work best to write a story about your
character, is what you should go with. (50 Marks)
Here is what you will want to touch upon in your short story (feel free to add more to the list
if you like, this is just to help guide your writing in case you get stuck:
➢ How did your character react when he was rescued with the other boys?
Simon felt relieved that he would finally be rescued from this hellhole
➢ What was his first day at home like? Did he have a hard time adjusting?
Being back in civilization was hard to adjust back to. It was like being back from a war
➢ Was life different for him once he returned to school?
Yes, He was more public as in had more publicity
➢ Did he struggle as a teenager with coming to terms with what happened on the Island?
Yes, He developed PTSD from those events and depression.
➢ What kind of career did your character end up choosing?

➢ Did he end up getting married and having children or did he remain single?
Yes, He married this teacher that he met at one of his seminars at a high school and tried to
have children, but could not
➢ What kind of interests did he establish as he got older? (cars, movies, television,
baseball?)
As he grew older he established interests like golf and reading mystery novels.
