Although, e-mails can be effective in communication in an organization, it also has its disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages are that employees use e-mail for personal use. This slows down production and causes company’s clients to pay higher costs for their services. Another disadvantage of employees using personal e-mail at the place of work is that companies are required to retain all emails for a certain amount of time or pay the consequences of fines. It is important to retain all e-mails in case they are needed for evidence in a lawsuit. When a lawsuit comes into effect with a company it does not matter if an e-mail was used on a personal account or a work account it is still considered the same thing in the court of law. No matter what type of email is sent its path is still considered the organizations responsibility.
