I. Introduction:
a. The Computer industry has revolutionized the way mankind learns, plays, and works. Computers aid us in our daily lives whether we know it or not. They control everything from starting our cars to turning on our coffee pots; however it wasn’t always like this. There was a time when the computer was considered to be a novelty for hobbyist. That time however has come and gone. The new hobbyists have now set their interests in the past. Computer enthusiasts are looking to the past with a sense of nostalgia wondering where the time has gone. My computing preference has always been the Apple brand. The rivalry between Apple and Microsoft has been one of intrigue and mystery to me. The competition between the two companies is one of the driving factors for the explosion of the computer market. Back in times gone by, their wasn’t a world wide web or an internet for consumers to find out about products, so the majority was done through television, radio, and magazines.

II. Context and Description of Advertisement.
a. In this essay we are going to explore an ad for the introduction of the Macintosh computer by Apple. Think back in time, it is January 1984, and you are thumbing through the latest issue of Byte magazine and you come across an ad for the most recent release of Apple’s computer system. The heading reads “Apple introduces the MACINTOSH. The computer for the bemused, confused, and intimidated”. You think to yourself that sounds a lot like me. You have been reading more and more about the computer craze that has been sweeping the nation. You see them in stores, offices, and a couple of your friends even have them. But you ask yourself “are they for me”? So you continue reading the article. Unlike most of these ads you’ve seen, this one isn’t over laden with a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo. You like that the ad talks about the different things you can do with the system in a way you understand....
