For my thesis topic I chose Child Abuse, I chose this topic because it’s a current problem in the U.S.As I go on into detail is this paper note that Child Abuse doesn’t only happen in the United States it happens all over the world, it happens to child because of the way their cultures are. In the next couple of pages I will be discussing why Child Abuse is such a huge problem, giving detailed expressions, facts, and short stories to explain the importance of why this is such a big deal.
Child Abuse is such a current problem because most abusers work alone and are well known to their victims. Some are family related members to these victims it’s a founded fact that almost 80% of abuse is taken place in the child’s home or on the home of the abusers who is known to them. According to Thorpe:
Between five and nine children are abducted and killed every year, 10% of all child homicide victims. A child is 15 times more likely to be killed by a parent than an unknown pedophile. (Jean Thorpe)
One child dies on an average of every two to three days at the hand of a family member. For a child that has to deal with abuse he or she has to often face trauma of relieving their sexual encounters and are faced with the trauma of lawsuits and legal proceedings.
The most accurate scientific studies report that 30% of men and 40% of women remember having been sexually molested during childhood. About half of these were by a family member close to them like a mother or father, uncle or aunt. The other half usually being with others, but with the complicity of caretakers in at least 80% of the cases. The experiences of seduction are not just pieced together from memories but are remembered in detail. The seductions occurred at a much earlier age than people had assumed it would have been, with the 81% of children being abused ranged from before puberty and an astonishing 42% under age 7.
