Recently, the United States Fish & Wildlife Commission has issued a mandate backed by the US Government stating all major financial institutions decrease their paper consumption by 40% by the end of the year. This information is known to the public and due to increasing demand for a more environmentally friendly or “Green” way of life. It is a fact that nearly every financial institution uses an overwhelming amount of paper each year. The Fish and Wildlife Commission reports that in just one year, the average well established bank uses about 2 million tons of paper for transactions, loans, balances, etc each year. The banking industry falls squarely into this category and needs to make a drastic change to satisfy customer demand for a greener, more environmentally friendly future. The Fish & Wildlife commission also has strong backing from the US Senate and its support of this issue. All financial institutions will receive a letter from the government stating if a bank, credit union, etc does not comply with this mandate in the specified time, they will be penalized with an excessive fine every 30 day period thereafter until it has made satisfactory changes. How do we form a Solution to this problem? One way to comply with the FWC’s mandate is to make interactive advancements to our Automatic Teller Machines (ATM). For example, instead of using paper slips to hand write transactions as all banks do, the new ATMs would allow account holders to do so right at the machine at any time of day or night. Normally most people end their work day at the same time employees that work at banks do. That means people don’t get the chance to make their transactions probably until the weekend. By making ATMs more like actual human tellers, it would be more convenient for people to make their deposits, withdrawals, etc. The second option would be more advanced but it would utilize the advantages the internet has to offer.
