It all started with passing her notes, playful name-calling and holding her hand in Secondary school. Then, you experienced puppy love for the first time and survived your first heartbreak. Finally, you're old enough to know how to go out on dates and you have reached the age where you feel with many girls, you only get “that one shot”. It is futile to deny that we live in a world where first impressions count and, most of the time, last. As a result, the pressure of the first date or “one shot” has brought many a macho-man crumbling to his knees. What a majority of ladies look out for on a first date are his appearance and his confidence. Indeed, the key to presenting the best side of oneself is through exuding confidence, and there are steps that can be taken to ensure that a guy brings the maximum level of confidence to the date.

Contrary to how most men prepare for a date, preparation really should begin at least a week before the day of the date (D-day). Reading up on current affairs and being fully informed of the hottest topics will enable you to have a myriad of conversation starters to choose from to avoid any awkward silences. After all, long gaps of awkward silences have an almost magical way somehow ensuring there will be no second date. You should also start exercising during the week (if you are not already constantly doing it). Exercising makes you feel better about your body image and although within that short span of time your abs might not be able to grate cheese like Hugh Jackman's, it will certainly give your confidence a boost. It also goes without saying that you should keep your body healthy throughout that week. While all ladies appreciate a guy thoughtful enough to get her something on the date, it is highly doubtful she would appreciate it if the first present she received from you was the flu. It is also practical to go shopping the week before D-day. This is so that you are able to prepare several outfits for D-day....
