The American dream is phrase that can be perceived in many ways, however the American dream is interpreted as a dream that anyone can achieve that results in happiness and success. This dream has been an aim for many Americans which gives them hope for the future. Tommy Hilfiger said “the road to success is not easy but with hard work, drive and passion it’s possible to achieve the American dream” (Tommy Hilfiger), This quote explains that anyone can be successful through will power and passion. Many say that in today’s society the American dream is not possible to achieve but the American dream is achievable by any class or ethnic group due to educational benefits , financial institutions and personal freedom.
Education plays a major role in achieving the American dream because education is needed such as high school and college to learn the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy life’s demands. Education also provides students with understanding of ideas, cultural movements and decision making skills, but not only is education important because we learn but it will also be a factor which type of career a person will end up in. Employment opportunities are better for someone with a college degree because the employer will consider the individual with the degree rather than the person without the degree because the employer believe the college graduate will have more knowledge of their company and can handle the work environment. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a big gap between those with a college degree and those without statistics show that unemployment rate among college graduates is only 4.2% but on the other hand unemployment rate for those with no degree is 14.2% the differences in these percentages show why education is a very important in achieving the American dream (college vs non-graduate employment rate).
