Methods of Public Speaking
There are four methods you can use to deliver a public speech. You could read from a manuscript, which is basically reading word for word what is written for you to the audience. You may also use reciting from memory technique, which involves memorizing your entire speech. This technique is usually used mainly for short speeches like toasts, introductions, or acceptance speeches. You could speak extemporaneously, which is a big word forimpromptu. This speech is rehearsed and prepared for ahead of time. The last method is, speaking impromptu. This method is unlike anextemporaneous speech because you do not practice ahead of time. You will speak strictly from what comes to mind at the moment.
I believe each type is easier for certain people but, harder for others. Personally for me, I would think reading from a manuscript would be easiest. You know exactly what you are going to say, and when you are going to say it. Some people may have issues with pausing in the correct spots or making eye contact, but as long as you rehearse it, I don’t see where that problem would come in. I think, depending on how well you know the subject, impromptu speech would be the hardest. Simply because a lot of people will blank on key points, and maybe stumble on their words not knowing exactly where they are going with their speech. I believe preparation is the key to any speech.
In this Public speaking course I hope to gain the confidence to not make myself suffer so much before a speech. I get so worked up that I’m not even paying attention afterwards. I plan to improve this by thinking positive and remembering that I will get through this. I want to think not only positive but, confident thoughts.
