When it comes to the recruitment process in law enforcement, there are standards that need to be met by individuals prior to moving forward into the selection process. The objectives that need to be completed will be time consuming and last for around four to twelve months or even longer to accomplish. There are numerous factors that will determine on the amount of time it will take to move from recruitment to selection. Found within is the Los Angeles Police Department’s process for hiring new potential officers and the programs that are offered to existing law enforcement officers such as training and career development programs.
Similar to all job requirements, an initial application will need to be filled out for consideration to be an officer with the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). This can be accomplished through a written form or through the LAPD website. This information must be printed and brought with you before being able to take the written exam; it will be collected at that time. The application process is broken down into four sections: Registered information, Application Questionnaire, Preliminary Background Application, and the Job Preview Questionnaire. The Registered information form consists of basic personal information such as name, birth date, current address, history of employment, and criminal offenses including those that involve drugs. This is followed by the Application Questionnaire that will include recruitment information. Next will be the Preliminary Background Application which is tailored to assist applicants in identifying specific portions of the investigation for background check purposes that might create delays or issues for applicants to move forward in the selection process.
