In the article “The Little High School That Could” written by Beverly Beyette, discusses a graduating class of 1984 in Salinas California. A teacher at Salinas High name George Shirley got the class of 1984 into Ivy League Schools in the nation. He told his students that anything is possible, if you give it your effort. Shirley helped his students by helping them write essays for admissions to the colleges they had applied to. He waived admission fees to the colleges for his students that applied to the Ivy League schools.The school district of Salinas California, does not want Shirley to help his students to become professionals and get the proper education they need.The district wants to keep them as factory farm workers. As for the rest of the people who work in Salinas California. But George Shirley wants his students to leave the farm work and get a proper education and have professional careers.
Education is the key to success. I had the chance to back to high school and had the opportunity the class of 1984 had. I think I would have attend a four years college right out of high school. I would have motivated myself a lot more to go to college right out of high school. In high school some teachers do try to help you and open your eyes to what is going to come right out of high school, or some teachers just show up to receive a pay check. But in my case, I had many great teachers in high school and not so many great. My Senior year in high school was one of my hardest years in high school. I was behind 5 credits by the time second semester came. I needed those 5 credits in order to graduate high school. No one had informed me during the beginning of the school year, that I had to take an extra class in order to graduate. I was so overwhelmed and scared that I wasn't going to be able to graduate with my class. I did my best in my second semester to complete these credits.
