Ever wanted to be part of the law or be involved with everything to do with the law? If so, a criminologist would be a very good job for you. Criminologists are experts in assessing the physical evidence of crime and observing criminals and everyone else involved in the law (Chronicle 8). They also do research to try to prevent criminal acts from happening. I chose this job because it looked interesting and I believe that it would be a fun job to have. It sounds pretty easy and I would make good money. Through this research I want to learn more of what criminologists do on the job.
The most important job for a criminologist is studying everyone’s social behavior that may contribute to crime (Devantier 3). By taking statistics and writing other information, many criminologists observe the way the prisoners are punished and the way prisoner rehab is managed. Because criminology has to do with everything in the law, they also study individuals such as police officers, lawyers, judges, correction officers, jailers, and social workers (Chronicle 9). Criminologists observe these people by creating surveys, reviewing case histories, making questionnaires, making many types of scales, and looking at historical documents (Discover).
Criminologists also try to predict how criminals will act in the future (Careers 49). They analyze criminal patterns and develop more ways to use crime-solving resources. They also keep an eye on the law and make sure they are up to current times with the changes in society (Discover). Criminologists may write out their data in reports or a book to show the quality of their work (Chronicle 9).
For the work they do they must get paid some amount of money. Criminologists make very good money for themselves and the hours they work. Even though they work between forty and fifty hours a week, they make a high salary (Chronicle 10). The starting pay for this job is close to $21.50 an hour, and $42,000 a year. Depending on the...
