Christopher R. Boyce English 1010 Professor Lamkin “Is America suffering from Immigration or is it benefiting?” Immigration, illegal immigration is a consistent issue in every aspect of the American life. One issue that’s surrounding the whole immigration issue is it doing the American culture any benefit or causing danger. The authors Lawrence Auster, Ben Wattenberg, and Joel Kotkin, two takes the same position on saying it helpful, and one says it’s doing nothing but, causing danger to America. In each of their corresponding articles: “Immigration is Harming American Culture, Immigration Good for American Culture, and Immigration Benefit’s the Economy”. In this essay I will focus mainly on each author’s positions, and give reasoning, supporting details on what America is really accomplishing out of immigration; good, bad, or are they benefiting anything out of it. To begin with, all, but one of the authors agree that immigration is good, and it benefits America an every aspect. That author is Lawrence Auster, Auster says that immigrants are dangerous, because their beliefs, they beliefs on this culture often conflict with American values and customs. His opinion is that America should realize and that they are a distinct country, and they should eliminate immigration if they wish to upload their nation. “Americans sometimes contribute to the immigrant threat when they uphold the principle of nondiscrimination toward other cultures” (Auster 71). He feels that America should remain one, don’t allow outsiders to come in, because their culture and beliefs are different, so Americans should remain distinct. Auster continue on saying that “the problem of immigration and the changes is that it is causing in our culture can be approached of America as a multicultural society instead of as a nation, or the permanent establishment of affirmative action programs for immigrants based on their race.
