Endangered Species
IUCN is defined as the International Union for Conservation of Nature. This programs mission is finding practical solutions to our environment and develops solutions for challenges. It was founded in 1948 as the largest global environmental organization and is the leading authority on the environment expansion. The members are IUCN are organizations, government and non-government organizations, voluntary scientists as well as 160 countries (About IUCN, 2014).
A species that is listed with the current IUCN Red List consists of approximately 36 species of amphibians and reptiles within North America alone.
The Red List includes countries, range, countries, definition of the species, and its habitat and ecology. The species I selected is called Zaglossus bruijnii, which is defined as a long-nosed spiny anteater. The Zaglossus bruijnii was considered vulnerable to endangerment from 1982-1990 due to continuing decrease in populations by hunters. The threat began in1996 when they became endangered as a result of continued hunters. Its geographical location is in Papua, Indonesia but can also be found on the islands of Batanta, part of the same country (The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species).
National park authorities are monitoring visitors or locals that may become a threat to hunt; hence more stringent hunting regulations.
