Abstract
"We're the underdogs. We haven't had a top 10 hit, and we look like a bunch of bums out there. Amidst all this glam and this huge production, we're going to stick out. But that's what we're here for--and that's what put us here is the first place" (Kirk Hammett). Metallica is a heavy metal band that started out back in 1981. James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich started out as group guys coming together to create music. This ended up culminating in the creation of one of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time.
According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of collaboration is “to cooperate with or willingly assist an enemy of one's country and especially an occupying force.” Every group establishes collaboration at the very beginning but there is many ways to put your group on the road to success. There can be problems, clashing of personalities and strategies that need to be put in place. Collaboration is not easy, but here are some of the ways you can collaborate with different groups at work.
Problems
“There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians” is what my dad always told me. Working together with one another at isn’t as easy as most people think. There are several problems that can arise when no one is working together. Work not being completed, conflict of interests, and there is no motivation to work. These are problems that can occur when employees do not know their roles and/or do not know what the main goal is. “Before the work can start and the collaboration can begin, all participants must agree to work on the same technological platform—in other words, all must be using the same tool in order to collaborate” (Hastings, 2009, p. 7).
