Falling asleep in the field, the reasons why it’s bad are pretty apparent to why it is wrong. The most apparent reason is the threat of the enemy, falling asleep in a combat zone could result in the enemy overrunning your position. If you’re asleep and the enemy approaches your squad from that direction there is no warning to the other squad members that the enemy is there. This will most likely result in 100% casualties in your squad. It is very important to stay awake on post so that you have that upper hand on the enemy and can hit them first and need be to egress to a secondary pb. Your squad is depending on you to be diligent and not fall asleep when their lives are in your hands. They are depending on you to be able to know yourself and when you are falling asleep and be able to do something about it. Whether it be to eat something, hit yourself, or position pointy rocks under yourself to stay awake. The Marines in the squad should be confident in your abilities to stand post and feel comfortable enough to get some sleep in. This ties into your dependability, if you can’t stay awake on post then how can a Marine feel comfortable telling you to go do something and know that your actually going to do it. They will look down on you and be worrying about whether or not that you can follow through with what you’re supposed to. It shows that your selfish, instead of being diligent and watching your sector of fire for just a couple hours, you would rather get some sleep. It also shows that you can’t be trusted to stay awake for just a couple hours when there is so much at stake. Not only do you have to worry about the enemy killing you and your squad, there is also the gear that is at stake. There is thousands of dollars of gear that is with you that the enemy would love.
