Current Event #1
In the article I read it talks about how just one breath you take could determine whether you could have asthma, tuberculosis, lung cancer, or any other serious health problems. For example, people had to take sputum test which would have to be analyzed and could take days, but that doesn’t help much when you can’t breathe and don’t know if you even have asthma. But now there are breath taking tests which allow doctors to tell you if you have asthma or if your medication is working for you. Hospitals and other health clinics will soon also have machines to tell whether or not you have tuberculosis, even though only 10% of people infected will develop the disease, if it is untreated or undetected it may cause death. More people in the United States have died from lung cancer than any other type of cancer; also 86% of those who have been diagnosed have died from lung cancer. In the years coming, there have been studies on cancer sniffing dogs which can detect colon or prostate cancer by sniffing urine and tests for breast cancer have been looking promising. H. Pylori Infection is also important because it can cause a lot of symptoms that are hard to find and will eventually lead to stomach cancer if not treated. A heart transplant is very important to someone because if your body doesn’t except it and it’s too late to find out you can die. But, now with new technology one breath can tell whether or not your body accepts the new heart and/or different organ. Everyday health is being studied and new technology is being found to help us stay as healthy as possible.
