Hospital Orientation Training: An Evaluation of the Process
Abstract
New graduates will most assuredly go through a great deal of stress as they transition from student to professional nurse. Because of these stressors, there is a large turnover in newly hired nurses. The research question asks if the current hospital orientation is effective in retaining the employment of the new graduate nurse. There were weaknesses in the study as the sample population was extremely small and all worked at the same hospital. Overall the orientation process scored well with 55% strongly agreeing and 25% agreeing (75% of survey nurses) stated they planned to remain in their current position for at least one year. Additionally 45% strongly agreed and 45% agreed (80% of those surveyed) stated the overall experience was positive.
