The European Union will benefit many citizens of Europe. As of 2007, there were 27 countries that have joined the union. There are many positive benefits for joining the union. I believe that this new economic union will improve many smaller countries. This union will bridge the gap between many European nations and solidify Europe. The goals of the union are to ensure peace and prosperity across Europe and have common policies across the union.
Citizens of the European Union can travel freely across the borders of the EU without waiting in customs lines which saves a great deal of time. The drivers licenses of the EU citizens are valid throughout every country of the union. The citizens are also free to live and work anywhere within the borders of the EU which opens up more job opportunities. The EU officials are wanting to streamline the currency to the euro to make trading among countries easier. Without the calculating of the exchange rate, consumers can easily buy from other countries. I feel like this would boost the struggling economy for many nations.
The EU also guarantees paid maternity leave for employees. This is a major incentive for working mothers who want to expand their families. It gives the mothers a peace of mind that they will be able to stay home with their new babies after birth and still be able to provide for their families. The EU has also improved air quality, beaches, and rivers over the last 20 years. These are just a few of the benefits the European Union has to offer its citizens. I feel that this union will benefit many of the smaller, struggling countries boost their economy and the living status of many citizens.
