Lord God & God
In the story Genesis, the omniscient “Lord God” created the earth and heavens in a matter or days. However, he contradicts himself, which questions his abilities. In Genesis, God created the earth and heavens within 6 days “and on the seventh day god ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day” (2:2). If God is able create the earth and heavens in 6 days then he is truly omniscience. Throughout Genesis 2 & 3, “God” and “Lord God” were mentioned several times. “Because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens” (2:4-5). If there was only God then who is Lord God? This raises another question; is there more than 1 God? It’s claimed that in Genesis 2 & 3 there is only 1 God. This is clearly contradictory. When God created Adam and Eve, he told them “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it” (2:16-17). Eve disobeyed God, “She took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her: and he did eat” (3:6). If God is all knowing then couldn’t he have predicted the future? God didn’t stop Adam or Eve nor know they ate from the tree of good and evil. He even questions “who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that shouldest not eat?” (3:11). Here God is literally asking questions. If someone is all knowing there should be no room for questions. In many ways Genesis contradicts itself revealing that God does not live up to his omniscient name.
