PRESCHOOL STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT
The years from 3 through 5 are often cited as preschool years. It means that parents, teachers, and caregivers collaborate in providing the best imaginable environment for the growth and development of young children. Children learn from experience and by imitation. In this paper I will define the developmental characteristic/milestone of a preschooler between the ages of three and five, describe three appropriate activities for preschooler that will enhance their cognitive, motor, social, emotional, and language development ,and discuss why and how the activities enhance children’ development.
A developmental milestone is a particular skill that is reached by most children by a certain age. Between the ages of three and five, your child will pass through some important preschooler developmental milestones. These are important stages in early childhood that will indicate the course of development of your child. Developmental milestones can involve physical, social, emotional, cognitive and communication skills. According to the Center of Disease Control children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, behave, and move.
In social and emotional skills, children at age 3 years old learn to show affection for friends without provoking, takes turns in games, show concern for crying friend, show a wide range of emotions, , dresses and undresses self and copies adults and friends. In language/communication skills, preschooler learn to follows instructions with 2 or 3 steps, can name most familiar hinges ,understands words like “in,” “on,” and “under” ,says first name, age, and sex , names a friend, says words like “I,” “me,” “we,” and.“ In cognitive, preschooler can work toys with buttons, levers, and moving parts ,speaks well enough for unfamiliar person to understand most of the time, and carries on a conversation using 2 to 3 sentences make-believe with dolls, animals, and people, understands...
