The bar and nightclub industry is a competitive one to say the least. In analyzing the business plan for McKnight’s Pub there are several strong points of the business. There is also plenty of opportunity because of the ever changing market. The business does have some weaknesses to overcome in order to succeed. There are several threats to the business as well. Upon performing a SWOT analysis of the business, there are several things that are clear about this company’s business plan.
McKnight’s Pub has several strengths that give it an immediate advantage over some of its competitors. McKnight's Pub was established in 1902 by Walter McKnight and over the years has become a well known fixture of Portland. The pub is located in one of the most outstanding downtown places in Portland as it is strategically located to attract the middle-class and upper middle-class working public during lunch and after quitting time. The building itself is one of the oldest still standing in Portland and has an old world style to it, leaving patrons feeling that they are getting an authentic Irish pub experience. Having been in business for over 100 years, the business boasts great tradition and an impeccable reputation in the area. The company has a well thought out marketing campaign which will hit radio and print with a full-scale advertisement platform to boost the clientele once the improvements are made to the business. One of, if not the biggest strength of the business is that it has strong management in place. Ian Davis, who recently purchased the pub, is a native to Oregon, having graduated from the University of Oregon in 1981 with degree in English. He went on to work with a number of firms in the food industry including Shari's, Smith and Taylor specialty foods, and Hosmer's Distributors Ltd.
