THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON THE SOCIO-POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC LIFE OF HUMANS.
Over the years, scientists have toiled together with engineers to push back the frontiers of science. This has resulted in tremendous technological advancement in Kenya and by extension globally. These advancements, however, have affected the above three phases of humans’ lives in one way or another and this article is written with the express purpose of deciphering those effects.
To begin with, it’s very clear that technology is significantly changing the fashion of politics in all countries of the world. Look at Kenya for instance, just a few decades ago we could only hear of our political leaders and the massive political campaigns they mounted over the radio. Today, however, things have greatly changed that almost all political rallies are televised and we can watch them from the comfort of our houses.
The social media is not left behind in this endeavour. Everybody observed how contenders for various political seats, especially the presidential ones, received heat and praises in equal measure in the just concluded elections in both Kenya and America. Various facebook pages and twitter accounts were created to support favourites and to demean other factions. Some people even went as far as trading insults indicating the kind of intolerance competing political interests can breed in a country.
To add on the list, the use of Teleprompters has enabled various political leaders across the globe to move wonderful speeches. This is a fact that has greatly endeared the electorate, oblivious of the truth, to them. Besides, we have witnessed countries like Ghana, Kenya among others adopt the use of biometric voter registers to avert electoral malpractices. Close at home, we engineering students of Moi University have embraced electronic voting for a long time and this has ensured free and fair elections.
