A firm’s strategic implementation plan should align directly with the entire organization’s business objectives, where the company’s mission, vision, and goals are supported methodically during the execution of the firm’s strategy. Harrison-Keyes’ new strategy is to develop an e-publishing department to counteract the fast growing internet publishing industry (UOP, 2009). Strategy formulation and implementation is a large portion of the success of most strategic management. According to Gray and Larson (2006), “The components of strategic management are closely linked, and all are directed toward the future success of the organization” (Chap. 2, p. 24, 2006). Strategic management components consist of the organization’s mission, goals, objectives, strategy, and implementation. The process of strategic management employs four activities (Gray & Larson, 2006). The activities are as follows:
1. Review and define the organizational mission.
2. Set long-range goals and objectives.
3. Analyze and formulate strategies to reach objectives.
4. Implement strategies through projects (Chap. 2, p. , 2006).
Harrison-Keyes strategic management process has poor strategy formulation and implementation. The lack of strategy formulation threatens the success of Harrison-Keyes’ implementation plan. A poor strategic implementation plan places the company at risk to an overrun budget, unidentified challenges, and the risk of missing deadlines for deliverables. Harrison-Keyes must develop stronger strategy formulation and implementation plans to reach business objectives successfully.
