Good morning or good afternoon. Today I would be talking about the book The Curious Incident Dog in the Night Time. This book was written by Mark Haddon. I would like to focus on one particular key episode in the book. It is about Christopher at Swindon station and also when he arrives at London station and what he experiences at the train station. In my speech I will be exploring the concepts of communication and how it relates to the whole text. Furthermore I will also take about the value of truth for example with him and his father, how father killed the dog but lied to him and finally I will talk about the relationships and also the obstacles he faces with his pet rat, Toby and also with his dad.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' is a novel exploring the world of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy with Asperger's Syndrome. This condition, as a consequence, leaves Christopher's ability to emotionally connect with other people all but non-existent. Along with this emotional indifference, Mark Haddon's explores Christopher's many behavioural problems. However it is soon clear that it is not only Christopher that has these troubles. What the novel shows is that both his parents have behavioural problems of their own which cause the family to fall apart.
Communication is a main theme or idea in the novel, and my key episode shows this by how Chris communicates with the police officer and how the police officer understands him. The importance of communication is emphasised in this scene where he arrives at Swindon station and the policeman sees him. It is shown when shown the police offer points and shows him where the ticket box and then directed him to the ticket box, and there was the man in the ticket box. This is used that Christopher is still scared but not safe with the police officer showing him where to go.
