King of the Macedonians and King of Asia. Alexander the Great, now there is a name that deserves to live on until the end of time. This remarkable leader has made unbelievable conquests and has spread the Greek culture to many societies outside of his civilization. Some may argue that he did not exceed his reputation but they are false in there accusations.
Alexander’s succession to his father’s crown was not guaranteed but he came into power in 336 B.C.E. at the mere age of nineteen years old, after his father was assassinated. He demonstrated strong leadership and military skills at an early age just like his father did, before he was killed. These skills were proven with his numerous conquests across the east, with use of intelligent tactics and patience. When Alexander came into power from Macedon, he respected the independence of the Greek Community instead of just taking over as a tyrant. Since war and superiority was of great importance at this time, Alexander and his army were in constant battle with other societies but he always made sure that his soldiers were honored in death. He promoted soldiers and officers himself after acts of bravery and he was always looked at as the motivation for others, in times of battle and competition. Alexander made sure to remain loyal to his men, just as they remained loyal to him and he would grant them gifts for acts of courage and he would physically show that his commanders were worthy and strong by giving them medals and crowns, to show their power. Alexander would also keep the culture and tradition alive with feasts and celebrations in honor of the gods . Alexander was not just a king who sat on a throne all day, he was involved with his people and dedicated to his culture, he was social and concerned for his people’s well being. Alexander was a well liked king by his people because he was not just a common dictator with only thoughts of power.
