PROFESSIONALISM
The true definition of professionalism is the professional character, spirits, or methods in oneself. The lack of professionalism can hinder a working environment, a friendship, and most of all military relationship. The lack of professionalism, relating to the military, the soldier that said the wrong words or actions, could have the lost of respect from the higher NCO or Officer. By that, the lack of professionalism that a soldier has can really hold him back in pursuing higher rank or further career in the military. For example, if you had a good NCO that had high expectations for you and you show the lack of professionalism, that NCO isn’t going to refer you for any good awards or recommendations for any higher responsibility. To have the best professionalism that you can acquire is looking at the leadership around you and the will to always wanting to be better then you were yesterday. But in the military, the professional expectations for a soldier where ever he/she is, that person has to have the best professionalism then average person. Your NCO expects the high professionalism and respect from you every single day because they have earned the rank to do so. By that you have to show up to ranks and do the best you can do every single day. For the military, if you have good professionalism within the ranks, the company can have good team work to get the job or mission done, less conflict so you can continue with the mission’s solutions, and in the long run you can make good decisions for the mission to go smoother. By that, you have to do the right things to be professional, like standing at parade rest for you NCO’s and position of attention for your Officers, using the right phrases, “sergeant” “sir/ma’am”, and using good eye contact. But in the military there is a time to have the professionalism and to be friends, but a good professional knows when to turn the switch off from professional to being friends. Professionalism is...
