Target was incorporated in 1902, the second-largest U.S. discounter has an assortment of general merchandise, including consumables, commodities, electronics, entertainment, and sporting goods, toys, apparel, and home furnishings as well as a line of food items they also sell merchandise online as well as offer credit cards to its customers. The company operates under Target and Super Target brands. Also the company has Clinics in select twin cities stores which offer various services including flu shots and treatment for common illnesses, such as strep throat, bronchitis, and skin conditions.
Their general merchandise stores have varieties of merchandise and food assortment. They have expanded the food assortment to include perishables, dairy and frozen items. Super Target stores have a wide variety of general merchandise items with a full line of food items. You can also shop at Target.com which offers an assortment of merchandise, including many items found in its stores and has extended sizes and colors, sold only online. They operate in two segments Retail and Credit Card. “The Retail Segment includes all of its merchandising operations, including its integrated online business while the Credit Card Segment offers credit to qualified guests through its branded credit cards, the Target Visa and the Target Card.” The company is based in Minneapolis, MN has 1,750 stores in 49 states and the District of Columbia and has plans to expand into Canada, where they hope to open 125 to 135 stores beginning in 2013. The Retail portion offers both essential and fashionable merchandise at low prices.
